Wonderfully descriptive and so sad to be reminded of our time. As you say what would grandmother have to say about all this perverse activity?

I think 'Boring and full of chicken, I went to bed' is your best line there.

Whilst I have not experienced such depravity first hand, I empathise with your wanting to share Jesus with people who are so lost. In the chest of battle it’s so hard to know how to speak truth. I just pray that the Lord will save them or give me a cue.

I’m 67 now and this country gives me the shivers.

As Adam Smith said, there is a great deal of ruin in a nation. We are just testing that particular theory to the limit.

I wish I could believe that this (very well described) situation must be an anomaly but I know it isn’t. Fortunately such behaviour hasn’t become evident in my rural area.

Growing up in the Midlands in a town which would largely be described as a shithole I can sadly say that this is the norm, not the exception.

I grew up in an industrial Yorkshire town that definitely wasn’t a shithole but very much is now

“His knavery should not have surprised.” I keep repeating this phrase to myself and laughing each time. Excellent post, thank you.

Oh my.

I'm glad you managed to stay away from anything to do with drugs / theft / beatings. Innnnit.

Being in Leicester, where was the famous whit of the most famous crisp sales person ever? Could this stellar intellectual provide a view, or even a commentary on the evening? Innnnit.

By the way. A marvellous story well told, as usual. Thank you.

Thanks, Andrew. I didn't see Gary - I suspect that someone on his salary rarely frequents the streets of Leicester at this point (thank God).

One suspects angry Gary could appear Leicester to re-connect with his peeps, now that he is free to optimise his career.

Would you believe that Leicester is the home of modern slavery in the UK. 1 in 8 people in Leicester is a slave, unable to withdraw their labour, working in sweat shops in the 'fast fashion,' industry, this has been known since 2012 yet the government turns a blind eye, because it's not the indigenous brits that's doing the slavery. This will be a bigger scandal than the grooming gangs when it finally hits the news cycles. Slavery is alive and well in the nation that ended it for the rest of the world.
