THE Current Thing is one hell of an intoxicant. Just a few months ago, countries across Europe were on the brink of imposing mandatory vaccination for all citizens. So great was the threat from Covid-19 that the fundamental bodily autonomy of people was to be overridden.
The 300 year Enlightenment experiment that we call ‘western civilisation’ is now in its decadent phase. This has been accelerated by the assault on civil society by utopian ideologues that began in earnest in the 1960’s.
This has had its most baleful effects in the field of education, whose state institutions are devoid of any real learning and imparting of knowledge let alone the encouragement of academic excellence.
Thus we have three generations of an atomised underclass with no sense of belonging or meaning adrift in a culture now obsessed with the ephemeral and the grotesque.
Very soon, possibly within this decade, the global financial system of debt based money will finally collapse ushering in a time of great hardship for most of us. The only bright spot in this will be that the ideological stupidity that brought us to it will also be utterly discredited and swept away.
I only hope that our much denuded institutions have enough strength left to survive and rebuild.
